Well my body aches but it was worth it – I completed the 10kms in a personal best time and found
that running through bush is quite a different experience. You stop focusing on your running and
focus more onto getting one foot in front of the other without falling flat on your face. I ran through
giant puddles, I ended up covered in mud and my nice white shoes are no longer white, but as I ran
through the home straight my three beautiful children were there with hands out for me to do high
fives as I went past and chanting “go mum” with my little boy saying “faster mum faster!” – and that
you can’t beat!
I have that feeling of complete satisfaction – one of the main reasons I enjoy running so much! Yes it
hurts, yes it is mind over matter, but when you finish no-one can take that elation away from you! It
is the best feeling!
When you finish something like that it brings back the passion, the excitement for running and you
look toward the next event more determined and more passionate than ever – I’m mentally ready
now and now I’ve moved from “just finishing” to wanting to beat my personal best. Now it’s moved
to the next level, that level of competition with yourself to do better than your last, to push yourself
further and to beat your last attempt.
No longer do I just want to finish the Huntly Half – now I have a time I want to complete it in…
So back to pounding the pavement I go…
Till next week,
Rebekah :)
