Well this week I’ve been amazed at the difference that has come about by changing what I eat. I
have an Amazing Nutritionist (Stacey Hancock Nutrition) who has been helping to ensure I fuel my
body with the right food for my training and actually just for life in general.
When you start any kind of exercise, you get told it is 70% Nutrition and 30% Exercise that you need
to focus on. This ensures that you have the right food going into your body to fuel your outgoing. I
once got told… would you put Diesel in a petrol car? No. That’s common sense. Well, so is ensuring
you put the right food into your body so that it can be energised to run at its full capacity. I learnt
how true that is this week.
I’ve now gone 7 days with no processed food touching these lips and I’ve never been fuller! My
energy levels have increased so much and I feel fantastic! Please don’t think “oh my god she must
eat like a rabbit” because that definitely is not the case. I eat so much food now but it’s all good
food. I try to eat as much organic food as possible and I guess I’m more aware of what my family eat
and how much crap there is around. By changing what I eat it has helped me with my running. I’ve
been able to run faster and feel stronger which is good as this Sunday I am competing in the Rotorua
off road 10km run.
By now you’re saying to yourself “ah well only 10kms – your training for a half that should be easy”.
To be honest it is the race I’m most scared about as it is off road. I’m a good on road runner and
my body isn’t used to that off road. It uses a whole other set of muscles in your legs and pushes you
not only to run but to balance your body as you run on uneven surfaces. So 10kms will feel like a
marathon to me, but I know I can do it and I know at the end my 3 beautiful children will be waiting
to cheer me on as I crawl over the finish line…
Fingers crossed I can report good news next week…
