Solid Energy HUNTLY HALF Marathon
8 Mar Recovery Week

This week was a recovery week after last week’s half marathon; it was also a week to experiment with the effects of orientation week (a week of partying to celebrate the first week back at university) and running. Lucky for me it was a slow running week, therefore the costumes came out and I was out to have a week on the town.

After the half on Sunday I found I wasn’t able to move very easily (or without pain) so I gave myself Monday off and did an easy 5km run on Tuesday. On Thursday I was back to normal training with a 10km run with the Hawks. I’m unsure if it was the night out on the town before, or the after effects of the half marathon, but it didn’t feel very great! The legs were sluggish and no matter how much effort I wanted to put in they weren’t going to speed up. I gave myself another couple days off and gave a 12km run ago today… again, not feeling the best. The shins and knees where very achy, and I think we can conclude that going out all week and running doesn’t go hand in hand. Lucky it’s only one week a year!

It has cooled down a bit this week which has been a breath of fresh air. It’s nice to go out on a run and not feel like you’re going to die of heat exhaustion! Going to have a couple more easy days this week and then it’s into some serious training for the Huntly Half.
