This week has been an eventful one! Started on Tuesday with the last night at
the Eastside tavern 5km run. I managed a PB for the summer season so was very
happy with that. I did get stuck for a few weeks (or maybe more like 2 months)
where my times weren't improving so it really gives you a lift seeing some
improvement. It shows that if you stick with your training the results will come –
you've just got to be patient.
After a rest day it was time for another 5km race down at the Hawks clubrooms
for the women's only 5km. I had psyched myself up for this one. I was on a
mission to get my 5km time under 21min. After a steady 3km I started to pick up
my pace and gave it my all with a sprint finish. I came over the finish line with a
time of 20:56 which I was over the moon about. It definitely made my week!
I have been trying to get under 21min for a good 6 months now so it felt amazing
to achieve that goal! Unfortunately I turned 20 the day before the run therefore I
just missed out on the first under 20 prize! Getting that time was enough for me
though.
So after a few days of speed training I went out for a 19km run on Saturday. It
felt nice to do a run at a slower pace but it does get a little bit boring especially
at the end after you've been running for 1hour and half – thank God for i-pods.
Feels good to get that long run out of the way and feels great that it's getting
easier. Last night was the first time I've had alcohol in a couple of months so
it should be interesting to see how that affects my training this week. I tend to
stay away from drinking, as it doesn't tend to have too many positive benefits on
performance.
Look forward to reporting back…
